Computer learns to speak

Using "learning algorithms" and children's stories, scientists at Artificial Intelligence Enterprise (Ai) in Tel Aviv, Israel claim to have created a computer that can teach itself to “speak.” The researchers, led by Chief Scientist Jason Hutchens, developed a small program that uses no input other than typed-in words in natural (everyday) language to teach the computer they named HAL to understand and communicate via human speech. HAL is supposedly at toddler level now, but if Ai can get it to 5-year-old status the technology might make keyboards and mice obsolete.
